Since 2012, Jim Sonefeld has inspired audiences across recovery groups, chambers of commerce, and churches with his powerful, heartfelt story. In 2022–23, after stepping into bookstores to reach general audiences, he discovered a fresh way to connect—by framing his journey through the lens of the Hero’s Journey. (Not that he considers himself the hero!)
This approach, combining storytelling, music, and humor, has opened new doors in the corporate speaking world, where Jim engages audiences with a relatable arc of challenge, transformation, and hope. His events are more than talks—they’re immersive experiences designed to capture hearts.
But for Jim, the most meaningful moments come after the applause: the one-on-one conversations, the hugs, the shared stories. That’s where true connection lives—and that’s what keeps him coming back to the mic.
Jim Sonefeld is a songwriter, drummer, and founding member of the multi-platinum band Hootie & the Blowfish. The band came together during college and went on to sell over 25 million records worldwide. Jim is also the author of the memoir Swimming with the Blowfish: Hootie, Healing, and One Hell of a Ride, where he reflects on the highs and lows of fame, faith, addiction, and recovery.
